Review Corgi Warbirds (Series 2) Supermarine Spitfire Mk IX / Corgi WB99630:From Corgi's Warbirds Series 2 comes this Supermarine Spitfire Mk IX of 403 Squadron, RAF, KH-B (MA585) flown by George Buzz Beurling between September/October 1943. Each of the 1:72 scale models in this dynamic new series of 16 important aircraft is highly detailed and made to the high standards we have come to expect from Corgi, yet offer superb value for money. George Buzz Beurling, DSO, DFM and Bar was the most successful Canadian fighter pilot of the Second World War. Initially Beurling tried to join the Royal Canadian Air Force, but his lack of academic qualifications led to his rejection. He then tried to the Finnish Air Force, but could not obtain his parents permission. Instead, Beurling sailed to the UK to enlist in the RAF, having forgotten his birth certificate Beurling had to return to Canada, having survived the return trip the RAF accepted him as a pilot. Posted to Malta in 1943, Beurling had some of his most successful days, downing three German fighters each time in September and October.
